This is my Way islam

Assalaamu alaikum [Peace be to you],

The Arabic word دعوة "Da'wah" simply means to invite to something. When it is used in conjunction with Islam it is understood to mean "Inviting to the Way of Islam - submission and surrender to the God."

But how should a Muslim do Da'wah? Allah explained it in the holy Qur'an.

Allah said:

قُلْ هَٰذِهِ سَبِيلِي أَدْعُو إِلَى اللَّهِ ۚ عَلَىٰ بَصِيرَةٍ أَنَا وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَنِي ۖ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ

Say: 'This is my way: I invite to Allah, the God, with knowledge and evidence, I and those who follow me. Glorified is Allah, and I am not of the disbelievers"

This is one of the ayat (Qur'anic verses) from which we can extract the rules/principles/basics of Da'wah.

 قُلْ - Say:

We are instructed to inform the people whatever follows after the command of "say". This ayah, as well as all the others, is being addressed to the Muslims in general and the Prophet Mohammed -peace be upon him- in particular as to how Muslims are to give Da'wah. In it are important commands for Muslims to implement. Thus, Muslims should learn them, understand them, and apply them.

 هَٰذِهِ سَبِيلِي - This is my Sabeel:

The Arabic word سبيل Sabeel means "way" or "path"

which means the following is my way...

 أَدْعُو إِلَى اللَّهِ - I invite to Allah... 

This phrase is in the first person, singular of the present tense of the verb da'aa (invite). It means: I am calling, I do summon, I bid/beckon/invite to Allah, the one God. This does not mean we call people to where Allah is - above His Throne. What it means is we summon people to the way of Allah. to his path. to bear witness that none is worthy of worship except him, glorified is his name. to call people to worship the only one true God worthy of all worship and to reject all false gods.

We are only commanded to call the people to the meaning of "there is nothing worthy of worship but Allah". we are not responsible for the people who don't accept the invitation. as it's stated in another Qur'anic verse " there is no compulsion in religion".

 عَلَىٰ بَصِيرَةٍ - with baseerah 

This part the verse tells us HOW to invite the people to the one God. The Arabic word Baseerah is not simple one to translate into English into one single word. 

In the Qur'an translations we find: 

- "Sahih International" translated it into "with insight". 

- "Muhsin Khan" and "Pickthall" translated it into "with sure knowledge"

- "Yusuf Ali" translated it into "on evidence clear as the seeing with one's eyes."

- "Shakir" translated it into "being certain"

and "Dr. Ghali" translated it into "with demonstration"

In the Arabic dictionary, The word Baseerah has these meanings:

- the power of insight and perception. 

- acumen. 

- the knowledge and certainty. 

- strong argument, clear proof and evidence. 

- the reason. 

- a demonstration. 

so the way to invite to Allah is through knowledge, proof, evidence and reason. it's to sit with the non-Muslims and prove to them the oneness of the God and the truthfulness of his message and Islam. a Muslim can't do this if he doesn't have enough knowledge of his religion. that's why every Muslim is required to know and understand his religion well in order to do his duty of Da'wah in the correct way.

 أَنَا وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَنِي - I and whomever follows me (does this)

The Prophet and whomever follows him obeys the orders that just was given by Allah: to invite the people to the path of the God with proofs and evidences/certified and knowledge. 

anyone using other ways is considered disobeying this command. for example, if a Muslim had a laser gun and wanted to use it to convert a non-muslim to Islam, this action is not accepted and the Muslim would be sinning in front of the God (for forcing belief on a non convinced person)

 وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ - and glorified is Allah

This expression is usually translated into English as such but the denotative meaning of this phrase is "Allah is far above and removed from any indignities, deficiencies, limitations, and lies that are attributed to Him", which connotes that He is hallowed/glorified. Included in this He's far above having any partners, peers, equals, companions, mate, or offspring...

 وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ - and I am not of the disbelievers.

This means that the Prophet and all those who follow him are not of the deen (religion) of the disbelievers, the polytheists, the idolators... 

The foundation of inviting people to Allah is given to us in this verse and other verses in the Qur'an. What Muslims must do is learn them, understand them, and apply them. This is the methodology of Da'wah of all the prophets: Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon, Jesus and Mohammed -peace be upon them all-. What these righteous individuals did was call the people to the oneness of the God with evidences and proofs. 

"Sahih International", "Muhsin Khan", "Pickthall", "Yusuf Ali", "Shakir" and "Dr. Ghali" are different English translations of the holy Qur'an. they are not Qur'an. simply translations of the meanings of Qur'anic verses.
